ABOUT ME
„Just over a month into my trip and I wonder how I’ve changed. Certainly the experiences I’ve had and things I’ve seen have shaped me in some way. It is helpful to see the world as a whole and to reassess and understand coherences. These adventures bring cognition and understanding.”
Martin Köppert – Adventurer, Explorer, and Nature Photographer
Martin Köppert is a photographer who combines his passion for nature, wildlife, and untouched landscapes with an insatiable drive to explore the most remote corners of the Earth. Around 15 years ago, he turned his back on the corporate world and left his career as a restructuring manager and business developer. Instead, he followed his heart and made photography his life's purpose.
Today, his focus is on landscape and wildlife photography, as well as documenting cultures that still live in relative isolation. His photographic projects are in-depth explorations of individual countries and regions—capturing not only the stunning diversity of their biomes, flora, and fauna but also the lives of the people who inhabit these areas.
To date, Martin Köppert has traveled to 98 countries across all continents, dedicating himself almost entirely to discovering new regions and capturing them through his lens. Over the past six years, he has focused extensively on South America, where he has carried out over 30 different projects in almost all countries—except Venezuela. Some of these countries he visited up to six times to fully immerse himself in their unique nature and culture. Two years ago, he expanded his photographic work to include regions in Central Asia, where he documents new, fascinating landscapes and wildlife.
Long-Term Projects
In addition to his numerous projects, Martin Köppert has been working on two extensive long-term documentary projects for the past two years, which will continue for another five to six years:
The Amazon Rainforest
The world's largest tropical rainforest spans across nine South American countries. Martin Köppert is dedicated to intensively documenting various regions of this unique ecosystem, capturing its breathtaking flora and fauna. So far, he has explored seven of the nine Amazonian countries, with a particular focus on Brazil, which contains the largest portion of this vast natural expanse. His work aims to highlight the mesmerizing landscapes, incredible biodiversity, threats to the rainforest, and the people who call it home.
The Snow Leopard in Central Asia
One of the most fascinating yet elusive predators on Earth, the snow leopard, inhabits the high mountain ranges of Central Asia. Martin Köppert has taken on the ambitious goal of documenting the habitats of this mysterious creature, including the biomes it shares with other wildlife species. The snow leopard is found across more than seven mountain regions and twelve countries in Central Asia, of which he has extensively explored three so far. This long-term study seeks not only to showcase the endangered habitat of this big cat but also to shed light on the fragile balance of entire ecosystems in the high mountains.
Awards and Commitment to Conservation
His stunning images have already received recognition in several national and international photography competitions and have been published in renowned magazines. Additionally, he presents his work in exhibitions. In 2024, he published his first photography book about the Pantanal, one of the world's largest and most biodiverse wetland areas.
Nature and wildlife conservation are central to Martin Köppert’s mission. His projects not only highlight the beauty and fragility of our planet but also draw attention to pressing ecological and environmental issues. To actively support these causes and promote sustainable initiatives, he founded the mko-foundation. This foundation is dedicated to nature and wildlife conservation, as well as humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts in selected regions.
Through his work, Martin Köppert succeeds in making nature’s magnificence and vulnerability visible—encouraging viewers to reflect, marvel, and take action.
